We are happy to announce our very first developer-preview of the Ethereum Wallet \u00d0App. The point of this release is to gather feedback, squash bugs and, most importantly, get the code audited<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Please note that this is a developer-preview and <\/span>not<\/b> the final release. We <\/span>advise<\/span> you to be <\/span>extremely<\/span> careful putting large amount of Ether in the wallet contracts.<\/span> Using the wallet on the mainnet should only be done with small amounts!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

As Steve Ballmer once said <\/span>Developers! Developers! Developers! <\/b>And note that this is exactly our target <\/span>audience<\/span>, don\u2019t blindly trust us and we ask (<\/span>and advise!<\/b>) you to take a thorough look through the code in\u00a0the\u00a0ethereum wallet repository<\/a>!<\/span><\/p>\n

If you\u2019d like to build the wallet yourself, you need to head over to the Mist repository, use the wallet branch<\/a> and follow the instructions in the <\/span>Readme<\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you have any issues with the wallet, open the developer console of the wallet (Menu -> Developer -> Toggle console) and provide the logs from there and the terminal where you started <\/p>\n

First download the binary for you OS: (**Note**: You can find newer releases here<\/a>)<\/p>\n
This developer preview doesn’t come bundled with a node, as there are a few things still to be finalised, so you still need to start one yourself.<\/p>\n
For this developer preview the supported clients are <\/span>geth<\/span> and <\/span>eth<\/span>. Python is currently not supported because it does not have the required IPC interface to run the wallet.<\/span><\/p>\n
If you don’t have one of these\u00a0nodes installed yet,\u00a0follow the instructions here<\/a> or download a pre-build version<\/a>. Make sure you have updated to the latest version. \u00a0and start a node by simply running:<\/p>\n

If you want to unlock an account\u00a0to be able to\u00a0transfer add –unlock <\/span>, or start a console with $ geth attach<\/span> and unlock it \u00a0using the JavaScript interface:\u00a0personal.unlockAccount(‘‘)<\/my><\/span>.<\/p>\n

It is important to note that the wallet is expecting a fully synced up node.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In future versions of geth<\/span><\/span> and <\/span>eth<\/span><\/span>\u00a0the wallet will make use of the new eth_syncing<\/a>\u00a0method in the JSON RPC,\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>allowing you to see a sync screen when you start the wallet.
\nThis feature is currently already supported by geth<\/span>\u00a0and eth<\/span> on their\u00a0develop branches.<\/em><\/p>\n
Finally start the wallet by clicking the executable!<\/p>\n

<\/g><\/svg><\/a>Running on a testnet<\/h2>\n
If you want to try the wallet on a testnet you need to start your node with a different network id and probably a different data directory. To make sure the wallet can still connect to your node you manually need to set the IPC\u00a0path:<\/p>\n

Additional you should probably provide your own genesis block<\/a> using the\u00a0–genesis<\/span> flag. For more details about the flags see the wiki<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After the node is started you can simple start the wallet again.
\nNote<\/em> that you need to wait sometimes a bit,\u00a0and click in the button in the corner.<\/p>\n
Once you opened the wallet you will see a popup asking you to deploy a wallet contract on your testnet, which will be used as a code basis<\/strong> for your future wallet contracts. The main advantage is\u00a0that it\u00a0is much cheaper (1.8mio vs 180k gas).
\nNote:<\/strong> Make sure you have the displayed account unlocked and has at least 1 ether.<\/em><\/p>\n
