In a research note summarized by The Block and Investing.com, analysts write that \u201cweak trading activity in early 2026 is now fully reflected in the valuation,\u201d and that the firm continues to view Coinbase as \u201cthe best way to participate in crypto\u2019s market\u2011share gains versus the fiat economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bank stresses that Coinbase is steadily evolving into a \u201cfull\u2011service trading platform,\u201d pointing to the build\u2011out of derivatives, staking, <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto.news\/can-hyperliquid-price-hit-50-as-derivatives-dex-extends-real-world-reach\/\">DEX<\/a> aggregation, 24\/7 stock trading and prediction markets on top of its <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto.news\/tokenized-markets-collapse-multichain-infrastructure\/\">Base L2 infrastructure<\/a>. That shift has already tilted the business mix: Coinbase\u2019s Q3 2025 shareholder letter flagged subscription and services revenue \u2014 including stablecoin income \u2014 in a $710\u2013$790 million quarterly range, while external estimates suggest trading fees now account for less than half of total revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Where William Blair is most emphatic is on stablecoins. The note calls the continued growth of USD Coin \u201ca core positive,\u201d estimating that USDC\u2019s share of the dollar stablecoin market has risen to roughly 27%, up from around 21% in 2024, as it steadily gains ground on Tether\u2019s USDT. KuCoin and CEX.IO data show USDC supply has jumped about 220% since late 2023 to roughly $78\u2013$81 billion, helping push total stablecoin capitalization to a record $315 billion in Q1 2026, with stablecoins now representing around 75% of all crypto trading volume.<\/p>\n<p>That growth directly feeds Coinbase\u2019s bottom line. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates the exchange generated about $1.35 billion in USDC\u2011related revenue in 2025 \u2014 roughly 19% of total income \u2014 through its share of reserve interest and fees, with analysts at FinanceFeeds and CCN projecting that figure could grow two\u2011 to seven\u2011fold if USDC\u2011based payments and B2B settlement rails continue to scale. Coinbase also holds a significant minority stake in USDC issuer Circle and splits global reserve income 50\/50, a structure William Blair says creates \u201cpowerful economic alignment\u201d as the stablecoin expands into merchant, payroll and card\u2011network integrations.<\/p>\n<p>William Blair\u2019s January note described Circle as \u201cpositioned to ride a wave of USDC commercialization,\u201d highlighting Visa\u2019s decision to formally settle some U.S. card flows in USDC, as well as new integrations with Intuit and other enterprise software providers. The latest update reiterates that view, arguing that as USDC becomes embedded in payment flows, on\u2011chain treasuries and tokenized real\u2011world assets, Coinbase\u2019s USDC revenue stream should become \u201cmore recurring, higher\u2011margin and less cyclical than trading fees,\u201d even under tougher U.S. stablecoin rules.<\/p>\n<p>On the macro side, the bank assigns a low probability to a prolonged \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/crypto.news\/top-investors-remain-bullish-on-web3-despite-crypto-winter\/\">crypto winter<\/a>\u201d and frames Coinbase\u2019s setup as an \u201casymmetric upside\u201d bet: if markets stay muted, stablecoin and subscription revenues still support the business, while any renewed bull phase in bitcoin and ether volumes would come on top of an already improving earnings base.
