As of April 17, 2026, Emilie had logged approximately 45,500 user interactions on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- .cn-block-related-link --><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What the state is demanding<\/h2>\n<p>The Shapiro administration is seeking a preliminary injunction and a court order to stop AI companion bots from posing as licensed professionals and providing medical advice. The case marks the first enforcement action of its kind announced by a governor in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPennsylvania law is clear,\u201d Al Schmidt, secretary of Pennsylvania\u2019s Department of State, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pa.gov\/governor\/newsroom\/2026-press-releases\/shapiro-administration-sues-character-ai-over-fake-medical-claim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cYou cannot hold yourself out as a licensed medical professional without proper credentials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Character.AI said its characters are fictional and intended for entertainment, with prominent disclaimers in every chat reminding users that a Character is not a real person. The company said it does not comment on pending litigation.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A pattern of harm allegations<\/h3>\n<p>Character.AI has faced a string of lawsuits over harms allegedly linked to its chatbots. Kentucky <a href=\"https:\/\/crypto.news\/ai-therapy-chatbots-face-state-bans-in-us\/\">filed<\/a> suit in 2026 alleging its bots preyed on children and led them into self-harm.
